Short description: Subject gives an overview on the story of bioinformatics, public database of bioinformatic data and the most popular directions of research in bioinformatics.
Full description: content, structure and practical skills of using the major bioinformatics databases, DNA and amino acid sequence alignment, phylogenetic analysis, SNPs, haplotypes, SNP microarrays, expression microarrays

Learning outcomes: Knowledge: distinguishes and selects the appropriate information technology necessary for obtaining and processing information identifies and selects the most useful methods in biological research in the field of bioinformatics knows the history of biological science and the most important methods in bioinformatics Skills: applies appropriate information technologies for the statistical and graphical data description as well as in obtaining and processing information; creates multimedia presentations learns independently in a targeted manner uses all available sources of information, including electronic, to learn, prepare presentations, and to plan research activities Social competences: shows interest in a systematic updating of knowledge in the field of bioinformatics, understands the need to acquire knowledge throughout life is responsible for the hardware which is used during the computer labs
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: One mark is given for the course, which includes lectures and labs depending on the number of students enrolled, the grade is based on: class attendance, activity during the classes and the individually assigned bioinformatic project.
